Boss Guitar YouTube Videos

Hi all – this is way overdue, but I’d like to share the videos from my Boss Guitar gig back in April.  As part of the Jazz Record Art Collective concert series, my trio (with Paul Mutzabaugh and Bob Rummage) performed Wes Montgomery’s Boss Guitar record in its entirety.  It was a very special evening for me.  Here are a few highlights:

Wes Montgomery’s Boss Guitar, live, April 22 2015

I’m thrilled to be performing Wes Montgomery’s classic album Boss Guitar in its entirety as part of the Jazz Record Art Collective series at the Fulton Street Collective (2000 W. Fulton St., Chicago IL), on Wednesday April 22, 2015, 9:00 PM.  I’ll be performing with Paul Mutzabaugh (organ) and Bob Rummage (drums), both of whom I’m humbled to play with and who I’m fortunate to count as friends. Lewis Achenbach is the featured artist for the evening, and he’ll be painting our performance.

I’ve spent many, many hours transcribing the arrangements from the record: the phrasing of melodies, chord changes, exact voicings from Wes’ chord melodies, etc. – the solos will (mostly) not be exact, though, as we need at least a little bit of room to stretch out…

Also, for the first time in public, I’ll be playing my 1964 Gibson Trini Lopez Custom guitar. This guitar was my dad’s, and I’m honored to use it to bring to life the album that first turned me on to jazz guitar; an album I first heard thanks to my dad.

I hope to see you there: April 22 2015, 9:00 PM. 2000 W. Fulton St., Chicago IL. 18 & over. $10; $5 students.
